MTS: Save the Green Planet
0지구를 지켜라!! (Save the Green Planet!)
Trailer | iMDB | Wiki | RottenTomatoes
Genre: Comedy, Drama, Fantasy, Sci-Fi & Thriller
Managed to make the time for a trip through some of the finest films Korean cinema has to offer and stopped by Save the Green Planet!, which rekindles ones hope in cinema during these dismal summer months of fecal-infected theaters.
Save the Green Planet!’s a bit unconventional as far as genre placement goes, but it manages to mold its aspects of horror, comedy, thriller, sci-fi and drama into a cohesive and absurdly heart warming masterpiece. The film revolves around Byeong-gu, a deranged apparently slow-witted bee farmer, who kidnaps a CEO of a major corporation on account of him being a supposed alien from Andromeda and goes on to interrogate him with the help of his homely carny girlfriend.
It’s best to dive into the film without knowing too much and don’t let the crazy hat poster turn you off!

0살인의 추억 (Memories of Murder)
iMDB | Wiki | RottenTomatoes
Genre: Drama, Mystery & Suspense, Satire
Cinema at its finest comes to live when a series of unprecedented sexually charged murders sweep through a Korean rural town in 1986, during a military dictatorship. The local police is inept at handling such a serious situation and when an agent from Seoul’s introduced to the mix, a serving of strong character development, suspense, comedy and drama grasps and doesn’t let go until the very end.
There’s also amazing camera work, the scenery’s great and the film portrays how an authoritarian system and the culture produced the crime.
추격자 (The Chaser)
iMDB | Wiki | RottenTomatoes
Genre: Drama, Action, Mystery & Suspense
A great serial killer thriller, blended with psyche-horror elements and a moral awakening element. The film focuses on the drama and suspense spectrum and leaves the action scenes as a means to an end, rather then play into the Hollywood narrative that lately focuses most of it’s thrillers on action scenes.
박쥐 (Thirst)
iMDB | Wiki | RottenTomatoes
Genre: Drama, Mystery
As vampire films go, this is simply unmissable. However even if one has no interest in the bloodsucking menace this film delivers on both raw lust and sexuality, with tremendous camera work, lead acting and elements of dark comedy. No sparkling here.
장화, 홍련 (A Tale of Two Sisters)
iMDB | Wiki | RottenTomatoes
Genre: Drama, Horror, Mystery
Who doesn’t love a good mindfuck horror mystery? 장화, 홍련 is also full of symbolism, supernatural and psychological horror and put over the top with great directing and acting. A well packaged deal that shouldn’t go unnoticed and the 2009 Hollywood remake pales in comparison.

Jesus Christ – Vampire Hunter
…is here to save the day!
Well that sounds like some lame ass trailer, but dang I re watched the film recently and loved it yet again.
The one thing you gotta get past is the $40.000 budget and really crappy sound quality, with b-grade acting. But if you’re capable of overcoming your prejudice you’re in for one Hell of a ride!
Looking back on the experience, the scary guy in the hedge dragged me in, then the bad sound quality overcame me, but after a while I got used to it and was finally able to enjoy the flick in all it’s b-grade glory.
The flick actually has lovable characters and you start caring for Jesus, Santos heck Mrs. Magnum as well. Fun, funny, crazy, wacky, lesbians and inspired are a few more words to throw into the pot, making it Jesus Christ – Vampire Hunter. Not to mention some bigot indoctrinated christian loonies might throw a fit watching it.
And a few favourite screenies:
