The Windows 7 omni-search-run bar is great at reducing icon clutter and much more, however when one has his own directory structure for applications, say c:\apps\dev, c:\apps\security, … Windows won’t automatically add those folders to its indexing plan. The other problem is locations like /Users and download dumps can create bogus results.

Here’s where Indexing Options show their strength. The Indexing Options FAQ at Microsoft’s website explains how to customize your search index.

Typing Indexing Options in the search bar should bring up the settings panel and after selecting “Modify” new location and exclusion rules can be set.
